I once knew a woman who was universally attractive. Perhaps I overstate that. She was tall and had a full figure–she worked in an inner city school and she had depth, humor, candor, and a kind heart.

Sure. I wouldn’t mind effortlessly dropping to Madonna’s weight class, but I would rather be like my friend Lisa–a harbor in the storm.

Because it has been my experience that despite the airbrushed angles of starvation embraced by our culture, when life gets tough, a soft shoulder is greater comfort than a bony one. A cushion in a spiny world.
