No one fasts for joy. No one fasts because the world is too kind a place. We fast because we are broken and so is our world.

I was praying about an intractable situation and I was reminded of Daniel–his quiet faith, his years in exile, the heart of a foreign king.

If you want miracles, pray. If you want impossible things, fast.

So I will fast. Rain would be nice as well, dear Father.
